Janki is pursuing a degree in fashion design, developing her creativity and building her skills in a field she loves.
But what defines her story most is not just what she studies. It is the sisterhood that has shaped her.
Janki entered the As Our Own family at five years old. In the beginning, everything felt unfamiliar. She missed her mother, though she rarely said it out loud. But over time, something steady began to form.
She found connection. She found belonging. She found sisters.
Through years of shared life, everyday rhythms, and consistent care, those relationships grew into something deeper. What began as proximity, became family.
At Cornerstone Leadership Academy, Janki’s creativity began to take shape. Mentors recognized her gifts in art, music, and design, and encouraged her to pursue them with intention. Over time, her path became clear.
Fashion design.
When she stepped into college, she expected independence. What she did not expect was how much she would still need the sisterhood that had shaped her.
Four of her childhood sisters enrolled at the same college, and together, they carried that bond into a new season. In unfamiliar spaces, they became a steady source of strength for one another. They notice when something is off. They encourage each other through challenges. They remind each other who they are.
That kind of sisterhood did not happen overnight. It was shaped over years, carried forward, and now shared with others.
Today, Janki is not only growing in her field. She is becoming that same kind of sister to younger girls, offering guidance, encouragement, and a steady presence when it matters most.
“My sisters helped me become who I am. Now I want to pass that on to the girls coming behind me.”
She has been shaped by a family that stayed.
And now, she is helping build that same family for the ones coming behind her.
