Prina stands as a powerful example of what happens when a girl is seen, supported, and equipped. She brings both personal experience and professional expertise to the field of trauma-informed care, using her story to shape new systems for children like the one she once was.
Prina’s strength is the kind that rises through adversity—and reaches back to lift others.
As an infant, Prina’s life was marked by loss, poverty, and uncertainty. Raised in a home filled with conflict and scarcity, her world was shattered when her father died by suicide. Soon after, her mother disappeared—leaving Prina and her sister in the care of their aging grandmother, who loved them deeply but could not meet their basic needs.
Hunger, fear, and instability shaped their days—until the day their grandmother found As Our Own. For the first time, Prina and her sister were welcomed not as orphans, but as daughters. They were given more than shelter; they were given a new beginning.
Within this loving, trauma-informed community, Prina began to heal. Surrounded by mentors, academic support, and emotional care, she discovered her voice—and her strength. She worked hard, thrived in school, and eventually earned a master’s degree in counseling from a U.S. university.
But Prina’s story isn’t hers alone—it’s part of a larger movement. She is one of many As Our Own daughters rising to become mentors, advocates, and leaders. Together, they are not just transforming their own lives; they’re rewriting the future for vulnerable children across India.
Prina’s rise is not the end of the story—it’s the beginning of a legacy she’s helping build for future generations.
